Oh, I’m so excited for this! I found you through the Training Our Daughters blog, and this is just SO very perfect for us. My 10 yo DD and I have been trying to work through Beautiful Girlhood, but we can’t seem to make it by ourselves. It’s a WONDERFUL study for both of us, so I’m hoping the accountability and discussions will help us. 🙂 We’re both very excited. Do you have a study button I could put up on my blog?

Glad you found us Kristi! I know…sometimes BG can be daunting and we can become bogged down in the mire of I’m not like this, I don’t know how to make application of this with my daughter, etc. Are you asking if I have a share button? I will have to check into that as I am NOT an IT person 🙂 But, you are most welcome to share our study on your blog. I encourage participants to stay accountable by leaving comments and questions post pictures and relate stories. It will help keep you and all of us focused.
Blessings to you Kristi,
Shelley
P.S. Tomorrow I am posting a graphic BUTTON for all who are doing the B&B study with their girls…be sure to grab one and post it!

I was wondering how we sign up for the study? I see the RSS/email subscription sign up, but is that the same as signing up for the study?

Thanks!

Hello Julieanne,
The answer to your question is yes and no. Yes, if you sign up for the RSS and Email Subscription, you will receive an email when the new posts come up for the study.
No, because you will need the Beautiful Girlhood and The Companion Guide book. You will need to set a time each week to spend with your daughter and read a chapter to her and go over the study questions and Bible Study.
Please go to this link for more information. http://www.btwixtandbtweenblog.com/?p=1560

If you have any other questions or need more clarification, please write me!

I’m excited to start this much needed journey with my oldest. I know my struggle is going to be finding the time. Thank you for your words of the importance of making this a priority. I needed to read that. My question is, I also teach a Sunday school class of 6-7th grade girls and would love to do something like this with them. There’s about 10 of them altogether, though I do have some who will not be there every week because of parents’ being divorced. Do you think this is something I could lead in a large group setting without moms, or is this just strictly for mom and daughters? Thanks for your help!

Hi Susan,
Time is one of the BIGGEST struggles we have as women. Trying to make the most of every minute. Make sure you read the post for 8/10/11. It is on how to make time for the B&B study!
About your Sunday School class…this would be perfect! We are finding that The Companion Guide to Beautiful Girlhood can be used in the classroom setting by either reading the book outlloud to the girls when they arrive and then discuss the questions, or have the girls read the chapter before they come to class and do The Companion Guide questions in class. The idea is always to direct the girls toward the godly character trait, find out what scriptures says, and discuss how to apply it in their lives!
IF the mama’s would come, you could have a whole new dimension to your ministry! You would not only be teaching those girls, but their mama’s as well. If you are interested on how to do this, contact me at shelleynoonan@hotmail.com and I can send you the resource packet!

Bottom line is this. You can do this with just your daughter. You can do this with your Sunday School girls. You can do this with Moms and the girls from your Sunday School!

Thanks for the great questions and keep me posted with how it is going.

Hi Karen! Won’t this be a great road trip? (And to think, we get to see each other again at Relevant on another road trip) What are you planning to do with your daughter that is going to make this fun??

I am mom to 6 girls (and 1 boy!), so I am thrilled to come across your site. We just graduated our oldest daughter and I wish I had done something like this with her. I am looking forward to doing this with my 13 and 11-year-olds, though. I have subscribed through my google reader…going to check out the facebook page now 🙂

I am interested in participating in this course with my daughter. I have signed up through the link provided on the blog but was wondering what materials I needed. I don’t want to over purchase or order the wrong thing altogether. Thanks for your help.

Hi Krystal,
Welcome. The books you need are The Companion Guide to Beautiful Girlhood and Beautiful Girlhood. If you would like to have other materials from our company on me speaking to mothers about the importance of mentoring your daughter check this out. And if your daughter’s body is changing go here.
What a great question! Looking forward to walking this with you and your daughter.
Blessings,
Shelley

This looks great! However, my daughter just turned 8 in April. Is she too young? Will this be offered again? If so, when? Thanks.

Reply

My plan, Lord willing, is to offer this every fall. So, next September it will be offered again.

Will subscribing by email work the same as using the RSS? We already own the book, do we -have- to have the companion guide to go with it?

Reply

wpadmin July 29, 2011 at 6:08 pm

Yep! You will get an email that has the updated post. Do you “have” to have the book? No, but it is what the B&B is based on. We focus on specific character traits from each chapter. The book The Companion Guide to BG is for the daughter….the blog is for you Mama!

I am really wanting to do this study with my 9 1/2 year old but she is VERY resistant to doing it along with me. Any ideas?

Reply

wpadmin July 28, 2011 at 12:19 pm

Hi Sarah,
I guess you need to find out the reason WHY she doesn’t want to do this study. You need to go deeper into the heart issues of why. Here are a few suggestions.
1. What does she like to do? Does she like to go out with you? Does she enjoy going for ice cream of maybe fruh fruh drinks at a coffee shop? Make sure you make this process Enjoyable and Special! (See our talk Mentoring Your Daughter….for ideas on how to make your time Enjoyable!)
2. Maybe she just doesn’t want to do this alone. Feels uncomfortable. Like there is too much focus on her. Perhaps you have a someone in mind that has a daughter your age that you can do this with. Perhaps, even a group?
Hope this helps! Keep me posted and let me know if you have more questions Sarah!

I have two daughters 10 & 11. We did many chapter lessons last year. My 10 yr old was resistant. I don’t know why, however, when we included her father in the lessons, she felt better. She often has a hard time expressing her feelings or does not really have deep feelings like my 11 yr old. The lessons are fairly serious and work on the heart. They are also logical and do not leave much room for creativity. My daughter often looks at life in a happy-go-lucky way, so I think it was hard for her to process these lessons. However, when her father participated in the discussion, it helped a lot.

wpadmin August 2, 2011 at 2:04 pm

Aimee,
Thanks for writing this very helpful feedback! The lessons, while serious, have ample room for mom to put her creative and personal touch into each lesson. My philosophy is that you, mom, are to be a student of your daughter. Know what she likes and dislikes. Find ways to add a spoonful of sugar to the medicine 🙂 You get a big kuddos for not giving up and working out a way that was good for you and your daughter.
Blessings,
Shelley
